Encapsulated in the ‘About’ section of Their FB page with the briefest of descriptions: ‘Loads mate’. It says nothing and yet everything about something that is what it is. Loads, with their echoes and attitude of The Who, Weller, The Small Faces and lots of Soul, have been kicking around for a few years, but recently saw a spark that has them set to make an impact beyond those already in the know.
Loads have begun recording an album which will be ready in 2022, and have now released the first three tracks, Better Together, Roll There and The People. There’s a nod to their influences, but this love of all things Soul-ish and Mod-like is more about mindset and musicality: Better Together marries a Soul beat with a 60s flavour, while the RnB swagger of Roll There posits what The Faces might’ve created had they written Get Back, while The People is an RnB influenced number that echoes The Roses.
There’s a currency about the songs Loads love, write and play. An insistency. It’s not about nostalgia. It crackles, clicks, pops and starts in a musical world where less is more.
Loads are:
Jason Wood - vocals
Antony Mullins - guitar
Liam Coffey - bass
Scott Oliver - drums
